Managed investing at InsingerGilissen

Managed investing at InsingerGilissen means that your assets are managed by expert professionals who prioritise your financial goals and risk profile. This offers you peace of mind and comfort, because you can be sure that our experts are working every day to achieve optimal investment results for you.

What is managed investing?

Managed investment, also known as asset management and discretionary portfolio management (DPM), means that you entrust the day-to-day care of managing your assets to a professional asset manager (portfolio manager). The latter then manages your investments as they see fit, but within the framework of the investment plan drawn up together with you. Part of this is your risk profile and the corresponding allocation of your assets across different asset classes such as shares (equities) and bonds.

With managed investing, clients therefore do not have to give their prior approval for buying or selling investments. If there are new developments, for instance in the stock market or the economy, the asset manager will make the necessary adjustments to the portfolio. However, periodically afterwards - at InsingerGilissen this is at least once a year - the asset manager accounts to the client for the investment policy pursued. At InsingerGilissen, we also check whether the investment returns and risk profile are still in line with you, your preferences and goals. This is also why it is so important that clients inform us immediately if there is a change in their personal situation.

What are the benefits of managed investing?

Beheerd beleggen: lange brug

The biggest advantage of managed investing with InsingerGilissen is that you experience peace of mind and comfort, knowing that your assets are in expert hands and specialists are at work daily to ensure optimal investment results. They also ensure that your investments remain in line with your investment plan and risk profile. It saves you time and effort as you don't have to follow financial news or gather investment research. Also, outsourcing investment management potentially protects ‘self-investors’ from unfavourable investment decisions. Private investors typically tend to take on more risk than necessary, by investing relatively heavily on one stock market, such as the AEX or S&P 500, for example.

But under-risking also occurs among investors who do it all themselves. The risk of this is that financial goals are not achieved because the returns are too low. This can happen, for instance, if self-investors sell positions during a stock market crash and get back in too late. This is because the best stock market days are the recovery days right after a sharp fall. Those who miss the recovery days miss out on a lot of returns, putting financial goals out of reach.

As a final advantage, we mention the hassle you are spared because you do not have to transmit investment orders and monitor their execution. Your investment manager will execute those transactions for you. However, we do expect you to check that we process withdrawals and deposits correctly and that your details with us are still correct.

What are the risks of managed investment?

Managed investment has the same risks as any other form of investment: your investments may lose their value (partially). It is therefore important that the asset manager applies the appropriate risk profile. Compared to investing on the stock market yourself, however, managed investment is usually less risky, because investment specialists (portfolio managers or asset managers) regularly monitor the portfolio diversification and its risk profile and adjust them if necessary. Another risk of managed investing is the policy pursued by the investment manager. He or she may follow a strategy that leads to disappointing investment performance. And in times of sharp price falls, investors have fewer options to respond than when the investor manages the investment portfolio himself. As an additional risk of managed investment, we should mention costs. If the management fee and other costs are relatively high, they weigh heavily on the net investment result.

Compare managed investment

Comparing asset managers is quite difficult in practice, as there are numerous possible differences between providers. For example, those looking to compare investment performance should be alert to the difference in risk taken. After all, return and risk go hand in hand in investing and a relatively risky investment can therefore - especially in the longer term - perform better than a less risky one.

So what comparison sites usually do, is compare the returns of comparable ‘neutral’ or 'balanced' investment portfolios, such as those with 50% equities and 50% bonds (and cash) split. Costs are easier to compare, by assuming equal amounts, say €1,000,000 invested over a year through investment management.

If you are considering having your assets managed, also make sure you know what you are having your money invested in. Are investments excluded that are related to activities that are harmful to the environment, biodiversity or to the people doing the work (as is often the case in mining)? At InsingerGilissen, all forms of investment take these so-called ESG factors into account before investing in anything. The results of these considerations depend in part on the strategy or investment mandate followed. You can read more about this here

Managed investing versus self investing

Beheerd beleggen: vergelijking

Anyone can invest by getting into mutual funds or index trackers (or individual stocks and bonds) themselves. If this is done without advice from a bank or asset manager, it is called ‘execution only’. InsingerGilissen also offers this service. But working with an expert professional (investing with investment advice) or having your investments managed by an asset manager (managed investing or discretionary portfolio management) has advantages. The main advantage is that a professional looks at the stock market less emotionally than a private investor, which leads to more rational decisions and thus, as a rule, to better long-term return opportunities. Professional investment advisers and asset managers also pay attention to the overall risk of an investment portfolio. By regularly checking this against the risk profile established with the investor, the balance between risk and return opportunities can be monitored. What are the costs of managed investment? Our all-in fee

At InsingerGilissen, we focus on clients with freely investable assets from €1 million. Those who opt for our Wealth Management, we offer a comprehensive package of services, such as a Financial Plan or Estate Plan (‘Private Plan’). This is drawn up by independent external financial planners, which we periodically review against - possibly changed - personal circumstances, preferences and goals. The cost of a Private Plan is included in our All-in fee.

An investor purchasing the Wealth Management service is charged a Private Banking fee plus an Asset Management fee:

Managed assets Private Banking fee Asset management fee

 €3 to 5 million 0.42%  0.85%
 €5 to 10 million 0.24%  0.85%
 €10 million or more* 0.06% 0.85%*

*) If the size of the (family) assets is €10 million or more, you will receive a refund of 0.10% of the assets in your account.

The Private Banking fee is charged as a percentage of your assets under management. The Asset Management fee is a percentage of your assets in the fund in which the assets are held. More information on our fees can be found on this page.

InsingerGilissen: more than managed investment

At InsingerGilissen, we go beyond managed investment (called Asset Management or Discretionary Portfolio Management with us). We carefully tailor our comprehensive services to your financial needs. We use a variety of investment profiles and offer a range of asset classes and financial products, all aimed at achieving optimal returns. Our approach is personal and tailored to help you achieve your financial goals. A key tool for this is your Private Plan, which is the personal financial plan or estate plan that we have an independent external financial planner draw up for you, the cost of which falls within our all-in fee.

But we can also unburden you by taking your financial administration out of your hands. We call that service Shoe Box. And to prepare the next generation to own and manage assets, we organise Next Gen Academy meetings for our clients' (grand)children (aged 18-30). There, topics covered include investing, buying a home, the impact of wealth on relationships, structuring wealth smartly and inheritance.

Our sustainability policy

Sustainability is at the heart of our investment strategies. At InsingerGilissen, we invest in a way that takes environmental, social and governance (‘ESG’) factors into account. This means we carefully select which companies and projects we invest in or support, with the aim of making a positive impact on the world around us. Please see this web page for more details on our sustainability policy.

Our investment profiles

We offer a wide range of investment profiles, including defensive and offensive options to meet the diverse needs of our clients. Each profile is carefully crafted to provide an optimal balance between risk and return, fully tailored to your personal goals and risk appetite.
Our defensive profiles are designed for investors who prefer stability and protection of their assets, with a lower level of risk and corresponding returns. At the other end of the spectrum, our offensive profiles are aimed at investors who are willing (and can afford) to take on more risk in exchange for potentially higher returns.

We understand that every investor is unique, with their own financial goals and risk tolerance. Therefore, we offer tailor-made solutions to suit your specific situation and needs. Our team of expert advisers is ready to guide you in choosing the right investment profile to suit your financial strategy. You can read more about our investment profiles here.

Our asset classes

At InsingerGilissen, we aim to optimise diversification and risk management by investing in different types of investments (asset classes). These include:

  1. Equities: By investing in shares of companies worldwide, we aim for capital growth and dividend income. Equities offer the opportunity to benefit from the (earnings) growth of companies and markets.
  2. Bonds: These fixed-income securities offer stability and regular income. We invest in government and corporate bonds to create a balanced portfolio that is less sensitive to market volatility.
  3. Alternative investments: This includes investments in real estate, commodities and other non-traditional assets. Alternative investments can help diversify the portfolio (and therefore spread risk) and generate additional returns, especially during times of market volatility.

By investing in these different asset classes within Wealth Management, we can spread risk and maximise opportunities for returns. Our team of experts is ready to advise you on choosing a form of investment that suits you, such as Wealth Management.

Our return on managed investment

Our investment strategies are designed to deliver long-term returns, using in-depth analysis and market insights. We constantly adapt our approach to respond to changing market conditions and achieve your investment goals. More information on our returns can be found at this page.
